Some common faults of copiers and their solutions

Aug 06, 2025
①Paper Jam
Cause:Paper quality problems, such as paper that is too thick, too thin, or damp, can easily cause paper jams.
The pickup roller is worn and cannot rotate the paper normally, causing the paper to get stuck during the feeding process.
Fusing component failure, such as dirty surface of the fusing roller, abnormal fusing temperature, etc., may cause the paper to jam during the fusing process.
There is a foreign object in the paper path, preventing the paper from passing normally.
Solution:Replace the paper with good quality that meets the requirements of the copier, and avoid using damp or wrinkled paper.
Clean or replace the pickup roller to make sure it works properly.
Clean the fixing roller, check the fixing temperature sensor and other components, and replace them in time if there is any fault.
Open each paper path cover of the copier and carefully check and remove foreign objects.
②Copies have black edges or spots
Cause:The toner cartridge surface is worn, scratched, or dirty, which can cause black edges or spots on copies.
A faulty charging roller may cause uneven charging, which may cause black edges or spots on the image.
The optical system is dirty. For example, dust and stains on the surface of mirrors and lenses will affect the transmission of light, resulting in black edges or spots on the copies.
Solution:Clean or replace the toner cartridge. If the toner cartridge is severely worn, it is recommended to replace it with a new one.
Check the charging roller, clean or replace it.
Use a clean soft cloth or special cleaning tools to clean the reflectors, lenses and other parts of the optical system.
③Printing or copying is illegible
Cause:The toner is low or the toner quality is poor, resulting in unclear writing.
The print head or scan head is dirty, affecting the printing or scanning effect.
Setting the copier's resolution too low can result in blurry text or images on the output.
Solution:Add or replace good quality toner in time.
To clean the print head or scan head, use special cleaning fluid and tools.
Enter the copier's setup menu and adjust the resolution to an appropriate value.
④The copier displays an error code
Cause:A sensor failure inside the copier, such as the paper sensor, toner sensor, etc., may cause an error code to be displayed.
Software or firmware issues may cause system errors, resulting in error codes being displayed
Hardware failures, such as problems with the main board, power board, etc., may also cause error codes.
Solution:Check if the sensor is blocked or damaged, clean or replace the sensor.
Try restarting the copier to see if that clears the error code. If that doesn't work, you can update the copier's software or firmware.
Contact professional maintenance personnel to check the hardware and repair or replace faulty hardware parts.
⑤Unable to connect to the network
Cause:The network settings are incorrect, such as the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.
The network interface is faulty. The network cable interface may be loose or damaged, or the network module may be faulty.
The copier's network driver may be problematic, the driver may not be installed or the version may be incompatible.
Solution:Recheck and set the correct network parameters to ensure they match the network environment.
Check whether the network cable is firmly connected, replace the network cable or check whether the network module is working properly.
Install or update the copier's network driver.
